UDHAMPUR, Aug 10: A one-day “Save Constitution, Save Democracy, Save Rights” conference of DOMA (Dalit, OBC, Minority, Adivasis) was today organized by its Udhampur unit with R K Kalsotra, State president DOMA J&K, as the chief guest. Amir-Ud-Din Kasana, B L Bhardwaj, Ashu Peter Mattoo, Devi Ditta, Swami Raj Bhagat and Roshan Choudhary were guests of honour.
The event saw large participation of intellectuals and social activists from Dalit, OBC, Minority and Tribal communities. The gathering resolved to build a united civil society movement of Dalits, Muslims, Backward Classes, Tribals and Christians to safeguard constitutional values and rights.
Speakers alleged that the country’s resources were monopolised by a few, depriving the majority of access to jobs, education, healthcare and business opportunities. Privatization and capitalism, they said, had deepened social injustice.
In his address, Kalsotra stressed unity to protect the Constitution, democracy and rights, and placed key demands including a caste census and accurate OBC population survey, restoration of reservation in promotions, implementation of Mandal Commission recommendations, strict enforcement of SC/ST Atrocities Act, filling backlog vacancies, restoring the old pension scheme, guaranteeing MSP for farmers and full implementation of the 2006 Forest Act.
Resolutions passed during the conference included restoration of J&K statehood, recognition of Punjabi language, stopping interference in Waqf Board, caste-based census, revival of SC/ST/OBC advisory boards, and halting privatization and sale of Government assets.
A new DOMA District Udhampur committee was also unanimously formed under Chairmanship of Dina Nath (Retired CEO) with members Phambi Ram, Kuldeep Kumar (Gaddi), Dr Vijay Atri, Ram Dass, Saif Ali, Dr Philip John, Dr D D Dogra, Amar Nath, Darshan Kumar, Kuldeep Kumar Bhagat, Johan Wilson, Tulsi Dass, Kaku Ram, Ved Parkash Bhagat, Om Parkash, Suram Chand Atri, Girdhari Lal, Om Parkash Khokhar, Krishan Lal, Hem Raj Bhardwaj, Rattan Chand, Neelam Bhasin, Rohit Lal, Surinder Kumar, Mintu Kumari and G L Bhagat.
