JAMMU, July 13: The three-day Dogri Theatre Competition, jointly organized by the Senior Citizens Support Services Club and Samooh Theatre, concluded at K L Saigal Hall with a vibrant display of theatrical excellence and rich Dogra culture.
Swarup Kala Sangam’s Dogri play ‘Ae Ghar Mera Nei’ was declared the Best Production, while The Reflection Group’s ‘Baba Jittmal’ secured the 2nd Best Production Award.
Ravinder Sharma was honoured with the Best Director Award for ‘Baba Jittmal’, while Jagdish Raj Sagar won the 2nd Best Director Award for ‘Ae Ghar Mera Nei’. Sagar also clinched the Best Actor Award for his role in the same play. The 2nd Best Actor Award went to Janak Khajuria for his performance in ‘Galat Vyakaran’.
In the female category, Ridhima Kalsi bagged the Best Actress Award for ‘Sas Puraan’, while Usha Salathia was declared 2nd Best Actress for her role in ‘Pension’. Young talent Tushar Sharma won the Best Child Award for his performance in ‘Sas Puraan’.
Among the technical awards, Surinder Manhas received the Best Music Award for ‘Baba Jittmal’, Sandeep Verma won the Best Light Award for ‘Galat Vyakaran’, and Saksham and Mohit jointly earned the Best Set Design Award for the same play. Pooja Sharma was awarded Best Costumes, and Shammi Dhamir was recognized for Best Make-up, both for ‘Baba Jittmal’.
A special consolation award was presented to Sapna Soni for her role as a female director of ‘Banda Bolda Ae’. Additionally, 15 merit certificates were given to artists for commendable performances.
The plays were critically evaluated by a distinguished jury comprising theatre critic Ravinder Koul and senior theatre personalities Arvind Anand and Rajesh Raina.
Harvinder Kour, Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, acknowledged the efforts of Dr Kasturi Lal Gupta and Sudhir Mahajan in promoting Dogri theatre. Dr Gupta also shared future plans and encouraged wider community participation.
The event, coordinated by playwright Rajneesh Kumar Gupta, also featured a cultural Dogri dance by girl children and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Vijay Sharma.
