JAMMU, Dec 8: The second event of the Dogri Sur Sarvshreshta Tara Programme was held, here today at the Department of Youth Sports and Services, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Organized under the aegis of the Senior Citizen Support Service Club, Chowadi, Jammu, the event aimed to promote interest among students in the Dogri language.
The competition, Dogri Sur Sarvshreshta Tara Pratiyogita, featured 25 participants who showcased their vocal proficiency in Dogri. The panel of judges included prominent figures such as Yash Pal Yash (Nami Dogri Sanstha), Prof. Padam Dev, Rajneesh Gupta, Santosh Sangra, and Rajesh Raina. After careful deliberation, the judges selected two finalists to compete for the title of Dogri Sur Sarvshreshta Tara.
The programme, a six-round series, aims to assess 120 students from various schools, identifying their proficiency in the Dogri language. It also serves to recognize the cultural significance of Dogri, which is spoken by over 5 million people in Jammu and Kashmir and surrounding regions. The top twelve participants will compete for prizes, including reward money and shields.
Dr. Kasturi Lal, Chairman of the Senior Citizens Support Service Club, emphasized the need to preserve Dogri, which, despite its rich cultural heritage, has not received the attention it deserves in the educational system. He called for greater recognition and inclusion of the language, particularly in primary school curricula.
The event was attended by prominent figures from the Senior Citizens Support Service Club, including Kailash Langer, Vijay Sharma, N.D. Sharma, Ashok Gupta, H.C. Vaid, and A.K. Khajuria. Tarun Charak conducted the proceedings, while S.K. Jain, Vice-President, and Vijay Sharma, General Secretary, also contributed to the event’s success.
