JAMMU, May 2: Dogri Sanstha Jammu organized a `Musical Evening of Dogri Songs’ at Dogri Bhawan, Karan Nagar, Jammu in which Ajay Singh Chib presented Dogri songs of celebrated poets like Inderjeet Kesar, while Hanuman Chalisa and two Dogri songs were also released on the occasion.
Former Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu Prof R D Sharma was the chief guest. He complimented the singer and hoped that such musical evenings dedicated to mother tongue Dogri should become a regular feature because when literature gets blended with soulful music and is backed with an impressive voice, it creates magic. Music has the power to connect with the soul and Dogri songs are very sweet and have the wanted flavour to cast a spell on the audience, he added.
Earlier, Prof Lalit Magotra, President of Dogri Sanstha Jammu said that the Sanstha has always worked with a sole purpose of promoting mother tongue Dogri through Mushairas, Kahani Goshthi , seminars or musical performances. He further said that music is loved by all and when it’s Dogri songs then the impact is even more. “These days we find many youngsters doing wonders on social media platforms with their music albums. The way they are using folk music is commendable and the viral videos give an indication that folk music holds a special place in our hearts, because it’s connected to our roots,” he added.
Ajay Singh Chib also shared his journey as a singer and composer with the august gathering. He thanked Dogri Sanstha Jammu for providing a platform to perform before eminent literary personalities and music lovers. He said that Dogri language is our mother tongue and we have a responsibility towards our cultural existence which we can fulfill only by promoting our culture.
Pawan Verma conducted the proceedings. A number of litterateurs, literature and Dogri lovers attended the Musical Evening.
