Dogri play ‘Baba Jittmal’ staged at CUJ

JAMMU, Nov 3 : A dogri play “Baba Jittmal” was staged by the Reflection Group at Central University of Jammu (CUJ), here today.
The event was graced by Padmashri Prof Lalit Mangotra as the special guest and Prof Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor Central University as the chief guest.
The play, written by Dr Gian Singh and creatively directed by Ravinder Sharma, enthralled the audience with its emotional depth, cultural richness and powerful performances.
“Baba Jittmal” is a folk drama that beautifully portrays the life and legacy of Baba Jittmal, a revered farmer-saint of Duggar Pradesh.
Set against the rustic backdrop of rural Jammu, the play delves into themes of land, spirituality, dignity and sacrifice, exploring the timeless connection between humanity and soil.
The narrative follows Baba Jittmal, a humble and devout farmer known for his unwavering honesty, compassion and spiritual wisdom.
As he confronts social injustice and challenges the tyranny of greedy landlords, he emerges as a symbol of truth, resistance and moral strength for the agrarian community.
The production featured Rohan Sharma as Baba Jittmal, Vrinda Gujral as Jojian and Ravinder Sharma as Mehta Bir Singh.
Supporting roles were authentically performed by Drishty (Bua Kodi), Ajay (Isso), Akash (Ghaggi) and Param Sagar (Malli). Other notable performances came from Pooravi Sharma, Manik Sharma, Kandarv Sharma, Nitesh Kumar, Nitin Kumar, Yashvardan Singh, Raghuvansh, Krish and Amit Singh.
The soulful singing by Surinder Manhas and Nandinni Kapoor added depth and authenticity and Brijesh Avtar Sharma’s impactful light design and executed by Avinash Lakhnotra elevated the dramatic tone of the play.
Dr Anju Thapa and Dr Manvi Rajput coordinated the whole event.
