Padma Sachdev, the daughter of the soil ,who earned the distinction of being the first woman poet in Dogri language and literature, is no more leaving behind a void which is difficult to be filled . Her demise at the age of 81 has been condoled by people from all walks of life, lovers of poetry and rich Dogri literature in which she had created a special niche for herself. She represented the best of Dogri- KashmiriPunjabi heritage. She will be long remembered for revival of Dogri language. Having won numerous awards including the Padma Shree, Sahaitya Academy Award, Kabir Samman etc for her poetry and various publications, renowned Hindi Poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, after reading her collection “Meri Kavita, Mere Geet” had said, ” Padma writes true poetry, I should throw my pen away.” Her contribution to Dogri language and literature having been phenomenal, she will always remain in the hearts of the people especially those having interest in poetry and novels .
