JAMMU, Dec 29: Workers of Dogra Front and Shiv Sena, led by party president Ashok Gupta, today took out a protest rally in Jammu city demanding deportation of Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants from Jammu and Kashmir.
Raising slogans and carrying placards, the protesters urged the administration to initiate a comprehensive verification and deportation drive, on the lines of recent actions undertaken in Uttar Pradesh against undocumented migrants.
Addressing the rally, Gupta alleged that illegal immigration was posing serious social, economic and security challenges, putting pressure on civic amenities and affecting employment opportunities for locals. He claimed that thousands of Bangladeshi and Rohingya families had been living for years in temporary settlements in the Jammu region, allegedly with political patronage and against the wishes of the local population.
Gupta further alleged that many of these immigrants had managed to procure Aadhaar cards, ration cards, water and electricity connections, and that their children were getting admission in Government schools on the basis of fake documents, depriving local eligible children of their rights. He also accused them of encroaching upon state land and setting up illegal huts.
The Dogra Front chief demanded a CBI probe and registration of an FIR to investigate who facilitated the settlement of Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants in Jammu, including those who allegedly helped them obtain official documents and civic amenities.
Gupta urged the Lieutenant Governor to take stringent action, asserting that providing water and electricity connections without domicile certificates or legal land possession violated rules and posed a threat to national security.
Several party workers, including Raju, Ganesh, Ajay, Kalu, Abhishek, Prem, Gautam, Arun, Shiva, Bantu and Naresh, among others, participated in the protest.
