Dogra Brahmin Sabha celebrates birth centenary of Maj Somnath Sharma

JAMMU, Feb 5: Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha on Sunday celebrated the birth centenary of Major Somnath Sharma here at Amar Shaheed Park, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu.
As per a statement, Lt Gen Rakesh Sharma (retired) was the Chief Guest while BD Sharma (IAS), who retired as Commissioner Secretary, was the Guest of the Honour.
In his address, Presidnet Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha, Ved Parkash Sharma highlighted the role of Major Sonmnath Sharma in the 1948 conflict. He said that Sharma was a true Dogra who attained martyrdom while fighting the Pakistani intruders.
President Tawi Bachao Andolen, Chander Mohan Sharma said that Major Somnath Sharma was a brave fighter who fought till the last breath during the Second World War in Burma.
Lt Gen Rakesh Sharma (retired) said that Major Somnath Sharma’s sacrifice is written in the annals of gold in the history of India.
“Sharma, who fought with one hand fractured, saved Kashmir from enemy. His bravery is taught in the Indian Military history,” he said.
Message of Dr Jitendra Singh, who couldn’t attend the programme in person, was also read in the gathering.
Soujanya Sharma, former Municipal Commissioner, presented vote of thanks on behalf of Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha.
