JAMMU, Feb 8: Migrants from erstwhile Doda region today held protest demonstration at the Exhibition Ground near Press Club here today.
A large number of  migrants from Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban area under the leadership of  Rakesh Kumar Sharma, chairman of Erstwhile Doda Migrants Committee (Jammu) assembled at the Press Club  and started protest demonstration followed by dharna. They were shouting slogans in support of their demands.
The protestors demanded that they should be paid relief on the pattern of  Kashmiri migrants. They alleged that despite clear Supreme Court directions the Doda migrants have been denied relief by the State Government. They warned not to test the patience of the migrants otherwise they would intensify their struggle.
Chairman of the Committee Rakesh Kumar alleged that  migrants from Doda were leading pitiable life  here and they should be given proper attention. There should not be two different yardsticks for the payment of relief/ cash compensation.  He said that committee delegation also met the Minister In-charge Revenue and Commissioner/ Secretary Revenue recently.
Both of them  gave assurance to settle the issue but nothing has been seen on the ground.  Som Nath, Hem Raj, Kanshi Ram and Shyam Lal also addressed the gathering.
