Doda admin to go tough against traffic violators

DODA: The district administration Doda has formulated road safety plan for effective monitoring and implementation of road safety rules, traffic regulation, checking fitness of vehicles and keep watch on the conduct of public transport operators to minimize road mishaps.

In this regard, a meeting was held today under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner Doda, Bhawani Rakwal.

The road safety plan among other things defines the role of  Motor Vehicle Department, Traffic Police and District Police for effective implementation of road safety rules, norms and regulating traffic besides re-verifying fitness of vehicles, character and conduct of drivers and helpers.

The DDC directed to initiate a drive to check over-loading, over-speeding, drunken driving, enforce use of helmet, seat belts and using of mobile phones by the drivers besides ensuring fitness of vehicles, registration of vehicles, installation of number plates as per rules.

He further directed to take strict action and impose maximum permissible fines on the defaulters and violators as a measure of detterance to avoid the accidents.

Directions were also issued to PWD and NHIDCL for identification and removal of bottlenecks in a time bound manner on the roads. They were told to install proper signage and danger marks at all the vulnerable spots. It was decided that the camps for counselling and awareness of drivers would be held regularly by the transport and traffic department.
