JAMMU, May 22: During a function here today, Dogri Sanstha Jammu in collaboration with Verma Video Vision screened a documentary film on the life and works of eminent Dogri writer and film maker Ved Rahi.
Brij Mohan Sharma, Principal Secretary Culture was chief guestn while Padmashri Prof. Lalit Magotra, president Dogri Sanstha Jammu presided over the function whereas Harvinder Kour, Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Dr. Naseeb Singh Manhas, Member Sahitya Akademi Advisory Board of Film Archives were special guests.
The documentary film, produced by Sahitya Akademi New Delhi is written by Late J.P Saraf, well-known by his pen name Chhatrapal, directed by Sudesh Kumar Verma and music was composed by Kuldeep Sapru whereas Des Raj was cinematographer and editor.
It is pertinent to mention here that Ved Rahi, who has enriched Dogri literature as a poet, short story writer and novelist got prestigious Sahitya Akademi award for his collection of short stories AALE in 1983. He has written dialogues and screenplay for many Hindi feature films including Yeh Raat Phir Na Aayegi, Aap Aaye Bahar Aayee, Pavitra Paapi, Be-Imaan, Prem Parbat, Charas, Kali Ghata etc. He has also directed many serials like Meerabai and Gul Gulshan Gulfam for Doordarshan.
Brij Mohan Sharma, the chief guest while recalling the colossal contributions made by Ved Rahi in Dogri literature and in film making said that Sahitya Akademi has done a commendable job by documenting his life and works in the form of a documentary that will inspire many to follow his footsteps.
Dr. Naseeb Singh Manhas also recalled his association with Ved Rahi and said that his literature is matchless. Pawan Verma conducted the proceedings.
