Doctors save life of old man, perform mechanical thrombectomy at Max Hospital

BATHINDA, Sept 11: Doctors at Max Super Speciality Hospital today saved the life of a 70-year-old man suffering from an acute pulmonary embolism, a serious and potentially fatal condition caused by a blood clot blocking the blood vessels in the lungs.
The patient was rushed to the hospital’s emergency department in a critical state, presenting with sudden shortness of breath and a brief loss of consciousness.
Tests revealed dangerously low oxygen levels, extremely high lung artery pressure and severely compromised heart function.
Standard treatment with blood thinners alone was deemed insufficient.
In a life-saving intervention, a team of specialists, led by Dr Dixit Goyal, Consultant, Cardiology, performed a mechanical thrombectomy using the Penumbra Aspiration System, a minimally invasive procedure designed to remove blood clots from the lungs.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Goyal said, “This was a high-risk emergency case. The patient’s oxygen levels had dropped critically and his heart was under immense strain. By using the Penumbra Aspiration System, we were able to extract large clots from both lungs, leading to immediate improvement. His oxygen levels rose to 100%, lung artery pressure normalised and the patient’s condition stabilised rapidly.”
Following the procedure, the patient made a swift recovery and was discharged within four days in stable condition.
Max Super Speciality Hospital, Bathinda, reaffirmed its commitment to advanced healthcare by successfully managing this complex, high-risk case with precision and care.
