JAMMU, Dec 9: A meeting of the Durga Nagar Welfare Coordination Committee (DNWCC) members was held with the Jal Shakti Minister, Javid Rana, at his official residence here to highlight the pressing problems of the people of the area.
The meeting focused on the long-pending issue of drinking water scarcity in the area, which residents have been facing for the last 35 years due to lack of attention and negligence by the concerned Department.
Taking serious cognizance of the matter, the Minister convened a follow-up meeting at his official residence, today which was attended by the Chief Engineer, SE PHE, Executive Engineers, AEE & JE (Civil Division) and Executive Engineers, AEE & JE (Mechanical Division), along with DNWCC members Sanjay Ganjoo, Behari Lal Raina, M.K. Razdhan, C L Dhar and Ashwani Kak.
After a detailed, threadbare discussion, the Minister issued on-the-spot standing instructions to the concerned officers to ensure regular water supply. He further directed that any fault in motors or related equipment must be repaired or replaced within 48 hours.
The delegation demanded bringing Feeder MU-9 under Essential Services and the Minister assured that the matter would be taken up with the PDD Department.
Senior officers were instructed to initiate immediate action for enhancement of water reservoir capacity.
The Minister also stressed on immediate tenders be floated for two motors for lifting of water through new pipe line for Durga Nagar and initiating working on the proposal for water storage capacity of1.5 lac gallons additional.
DNWCC was asked to submit follow-up status reports personally in case there is no visible improvement in water supply.
Other members who were part of delegation in the meeting were Jawahir Lal Raina, Kuldeep Bakshi, Ravinder Bhan, Dileep Handoo, Vesh Nath Raina, Ashwani Kak and Dileep Bhat.
