DM Jammu for adopting comprehensive strategy to combat drug menace

JAMMU, Dec 26: Taking a firm stance against drug abuse, District Magistrate Jammu Sachin Kumar Vaishya today called for outlining a comprehensive strategy to combat the menace in the district.
Chairing the meeting of the District Level Narcotics Coordination (NCORD) Committee, the DM directed the involvement of Drug Inspectors in all drugs-related raids and inspections. He further emphasised on conducting joint inspections led by SDMs, SDPOs and SPs.
Focussing on rehabilitation aspects, the DM called for systematic monitoring of registered drug addicts.
The meeting also raised concerns over the probable abuse of Schedule H drugs – prescription medications that require strict monitoring and can only be dispensed under valid prescriptions. The DM instructed the Assistant Drugs Controller and local police to conduct regular and surprise inspections in their jurisdictions.
SSP Joginder Singh emphasised enhanced inter-departmental coordination and stressed on strict enforcement of law and order to prevent the escalation of drug-related issues in the district.
The meeting delved into educational initiatives, with extensive discussions on awareness programs and identification of drug hotspots in the district. Thehouse also deliberated on mechanisms to monitor unusual transactions of drugs and other scheduled substances.
The meeting saw participation from senior officers including ADM Ansuya Jamwal, SDMs, SDPOs, Chief Medical Officer, Medical Superintendent Government Psychiatry Hospital besides other committee members.
