DLSA Jammu holds review meeting on under-trial prisoners

JAMMU, July 19: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Jammu, under the guidance of its Chairman Y P Bourney, Principal District and Sessions Judge Jammu, today held a meeting of the 3rd Under Trial Review Committee 2025.
The meeting was convened to review the cases of under-trial prisoners and ensure timely justice as per legal provisions.
The meeting took place in the office chamber of the Principal District and Sessions Judge and was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Adm) Ansuya Jamwal, Secretary DLSA Smriti Sharma, SP Jammu North Vivek Shekhar, Deputy Director Prosecution Prashant Mahajan, Jail Superintendents Veerinder Kumar Bhat (Kot Bhalwal) and Dharminder Katoch (District Jail Amphalla), and Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel Anil Sharma.
During the meeting, the committee examined cases following Supreme Court guidelines and NALSA SOPs, focusing on prisoners lacking legal representation or detained for long periods.
The committee recommended filing bail applications for eligible prisoners and directed officials to ensure legal benefits reach the deserving inmates.
The committee also discussed regular review meetings, maintaining consolidated data sheets, and submitting quarterly reports to monitor progress.
Chairman Y P Bourney appreciated all stakeholders for their active participation in addressing the concerns of under-trial prisoners.
