JAMMU, Oct 12: To spread awareness about legal rights and welfare entitlements among senior citizens, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Jammu today conducted an awareness programme at the Home for the Aged and Infirm (Vridh Ashram), Ambphalla.
The programme was held under the directions of the Secretary, DLSA Jammu. Advocate Snigdha Shekhar, Panel Lawyer, along with Para Legal Volunteer Sushma Parihar and members Monika and Vishakha Bhat, interacted with the elderly residents.
They briefed the inmates about free legal aid services available through DLSA and assured them of assistance whenever required.
During the interaction, the residents raised concerns about not receiving their old-age pensions due to the lack of domicile certificates and ration cards.
They said that despite living at the institution for years, many of them could not visit their native places to complete the required formalities.
The management members, including Secretary Dr Dinesh Gupta and committee representatives, suggested that fresh domicile certificates and PHH ration cards be issued using the Home’s address to make the residents eligible for old-age pensions and benefits under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
The visit concluded with appreciation from the Home’s management.
The DLSA team assured to take up the issue with concerned authorities to ensure that the elderly residents receive their due welfare benefits.
