SRINAGAR, July 17: In a significant step towards promoting alternative dispute resolution, a high-level meeting was hosted today by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Anantnag under the chairmanship of Tahir Khurshid Raina, Principal District & Sessions Judge.
The meeting brought together all Judicial Officers of District Anantnag, executive members of the Bar Association, trained mediators, and a large number of advocates, highlighting the legal fraternity’s growing interest in institutionalizing mediation practices in the region.
The gathering was organized in line with the recently launched nationwide campaign “Mediation for the Nation,” initiated by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in collaboration with the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee of the Supreme Court of India. The campaign is being conducted under the guidance of the Chief Justice of India and Justice Suryakant, Executive Chairman of NALSA and under the patronage of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Addressing the gathering, Judge Raina explained that the 90-day intensive drive is aimed at disposing off a significant number of pending cases across the country-spanning District Courts, Taluka Courts and High Courts-through mediation. He called it a timely intervention to reduce pendency and deliver speedy, cost-effective justice.
Highlighting the advantages of mediation, Raina noted that the method is not only economical and time-efficient but also preserves relationships through confidential and amicable dialogue. He added that mediation empowers the disputing parties by allowing them to play a central role in shaping the outcome.
“Lawyers are not merely officers of the court; they are torchbearers of justice. Your active participation in this special drive can transform the landscape of dispute resolution in our district,” Raina told the gathering.
The meeting concluded with an interactive session in which practical strategies were discussed to implement the campaign successfully at the district level. A shared commitment was made by all stakeholders to make the Mediation for the Nation campaign a success in Anantnag, reinforcing the judiciary’s focus on efficient, people-friendly justice delivery mechanisms.
