Novak Djokovic goes into this year’s Wimbledon Championship bidding to win the Grand Slam event for an eighth time. Should the Serbian lift the trophy once again, he will match Roger Federer’s record tally at the grass court event.

Despite being 38 years old now, Djokovic has shown in 2025 that he has the game to win the tournament. He has reached three ATP Tour finals, winning the Geneva Open recently in Switzerland.

Record at Wimbledon Is Outstanding

The grass courts at Wimbledon have been dominated by Djokovic since 2018. The former world number one has reached the final of the last six renewals of the men’s singles championship. He is available at 11/2 to those placing a tennis bet on the seven-time winner prevailing again this year.

Djokovic will face tough opposition this year in South West London. Jannik Sinner tops the Wimbledon odds 2025 at 7/5. The Italian won the Australian Open in Melbourne back in January, and he has the game to do well on the grass at Wimbledon, as he has demonstrated in previous editions.

With a record of 97-12 heading into the third Grand Slam on the tennis calendar, Djokovic is going to be a tough opponent to beat for any player in the draw. He made his debut in the tournament in 2005, and 20 years later, he remains one of the leading contenders for the trophy.

Djokovic Has Not Won a Grand Slam Since 2023

Although he has consistently reached the latter stages of the four major tournaments in tennis, Djokovic has not won one of them since he landed the 2023 US Open. That victory at Flushing Meadows in New York came following a straight sets win over Daniil Medvedev.

Djokovic did pick up a career highlight in 2024, as he won the Olympic gold medal in Paris. His emotional triumph allowed him to join a small club of players to have won all four Grand Slams and the Olympic gold medal.

The Serbian is now down to number six in the ATP rankings, but victory at Wimbledon would see him club up the standings. He is the joint-oldest player in the world’s top 100 of the men’s game, and as long as he stays fit and healthy, he could remain there for many more years to come.

Djokovic Enjoyed Great Rivalry with Federer

Before Federer retired from the court, Djokovic enjoyed a great rivalry with the Swiss player at Wimbledon. The pair met four times in the tournament, with Djokovic winning three times and Federer prevailing once.

Federer’s last appearance at Wimbledon came in 2021 when he lost in the quarter finals to Hubert Hurkacz. When he won his eighth Wimbledon title in 2017, it looked unlikely that anybody would match his record any time soon. However, Djokovic is now on the verge of doing that after winning four straight tournaments between 2018 and 2022.

The 2025 Wimbledon Championship begins on Monday, June 30 and the tournament will be played through until the final on Sunday, July 13.
