SRINAGAR, Oct 16: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, today assessed the readiness in Anantnag district for the upcoming winter season, focusing on snow clearance, power supply, essential commodities, and disaster response mechanisms.
Speaking to reporters, Garg said, “Today, my purpose of coming to Anantnag is to take a look at the preparedness for the upcoming winters. What kind of winter preparedness measures are in place? Especially regarding snow clearance, our remote areas should not face any kind of problem. Our district control rooms should be fully functional.”
He highlighted power supply as a key concern. “Power is a very serious issue in our winters. There are special instructions from the government that no one should face any problem this snow season. Our branch cutting should be timely so that transmission networks function smoothly. All grid capacities should deliver power to people to the maximum possible extent,” Garg said.
He added that buffer stocks of transformers of different ratings must be replenished for immediate replacement in case of outages. “If needed, additional vehicles will be hired on an outsourcing basis to replace transformers within minimum time,” he said.
Garg also stressed the availability of essential supplies. “Fuel, LPG, ration, especially in remote areas, should be sufficiently available. The machinery of our entire district should be geared up for the upcoming winter season,” he said, adding that recent near-flood situations were managed efficiently due to a good response mechanism and support from the public.
He said that the district-level control room would be monitored and manned 24 hours by the power department and district officers to ensure grievances from the public are immediately resolved.
