Distance Edu Degrees

Sir,
This is in reference to the letter titled”Plea to Education Minister”published in Daily Excelsior some days ago.The author does not seems to be sure about the degrees and diplomas obtained through distance education system.Being a life long learner through distance education system I would like to inform the all concerned persons that there are two conditions to be fulfilled by the institute offering distance education.First, the courses should be recognised by the UGC and second,it should also be approved by Distance Education Council of India.
The quality of education differs from university to university. To my personal knowledge and experience the quality of education offered by IGNOU and many other State Open Universities is very good and there are many directorates of distance education DDEs in the country which are also offering good quality of education.
It can not be understood as why the degrees awarded by others universities are not treated at par with those awarded by the University of Jammu and or Kashmir. It is being done despite the fact that the quality of education offered by the other universities is far better than that of the Jammu or Kashmir University.Further, the courses are never completed in stipulated time by our state DDEs.A course of one year duration is some times completed in more than three years. And the results are also not declared in time.
The matter concerning recognition of distance education degrees awarded by other universities should be reviewed and approved by our state government so that the interested persons could improve their educational qualification. The basic criteria for the recognition of distance education degrees should have  the approval of UGC and DEC New Delhi.
Yours etc…
