JAMMU, Sept 13: ‘RangTrang’-Display Your Talent 2019, an annual feature of the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu was declared open by the chief guest Prof Manoj K. Dhar, Vice-Chancellor JU, here today.
The event is organized to provide a creative forum to artists in varied disciplines to showcase their talent. Students from the affiliated Degree Colleges and University Departments participate in different competitions of music, dance, literary, fine-arts and theatrical activities.
Prof Vinayshil Gutam, an internationally acclaimed academician and Deepak Kumar, a veteran theatre director of J&K were the guests of honour at the inaugural function.
The special feature of the event was Quawali Concert by Warsi brothers in collaboration with SPIC MACAY. The amazing performance by Warsi brothers left the audience spellbound, rather mesmerised them.
Warsi Brothers are internationally renowned Indian Quwalli musical group headed by Nazeer Ahmed Khan Warsi and Naseer Ahmed Khan Warsi and other artists of the group include Sameer Ahmed Khan, MD Jabbar Khan, Obaid Ahmed Khan, Ghulam Mehboob, Syed Habib, Sami Ahmed Khan Warsi & Aziz Ahmed Khan.
Earlier, the event started with the lighting of lamp by Prof Manoj K. Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Registrar, Prof Jasbir Singh, Dean Students Welfare, Prof Yash Pal Sharma, Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee, Prof Anupama Vohra, Co-Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, Dr Sapna Sangra, State Chairperson SPIC MACAY, Prof Vinayshil Gutam, Deepak Kumar and Prof RK Ganjoo, Director CDC, JU.
Talking to Excelsior, the Chairperson and National Executive Member SPIC MACAY Dr Sapna K Sangra has expressed deep sense of satisfaction over the way SPIC MACAY has made a major comeback in the last four years and has rekindled the interest of youth in the Indian classical music. Dr Seema Rohmetra, Coordinator SPIC MACAY, jammu region said, “In the present era of consumerist culture where the youth is attracted more towards western culture probably because of not getting exposed to richness of its own Indian cultural ethos , SPIC MACAY is playing a significant role in sensitising the youth about India’s rich traditions with respect to arts and music.”
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu said that the University of Jammu is proud to host Display Your Talent, a cultural bonanza which attracts an active participation of students every year.
“This year is even more special as this is being organized in the Golden Jubilee Year of the University and has been named ‘RangTrang'”, added Mr Dhar.
Prof Jasbir Singh, Dean Students Welfare, in his welcome address, dwelt on the importance of organizing this event.
Prof Yash Pal Sharma, Chairman Campus Cultural Committee presented the formal vote of thanks.
The event was coordinated by Dr BK Bajaj (Associate Dean Students Welfare), Dr Anil Gupta, Dr Garima Gupta (Assistant Deans SW), Mansi Mantoo (Media Officer), Ifra Kak (Cultural Officer) and Sumeet Sharma (Drama Instructor).
The programme was conducted by Seerat Baji. Shaharaza, Vaishali Magotra, Kusum, Vrinda, Harshmita, Alisha, Anup, Sahil and Mehul looked after the hall management.
