JAMMU, Apr 8: Dismayed over the rejection of two private members bills regarding Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and temples by the Government, Kashmiri Pandits decided to intensify their struggle to take the movement launched over 15 years back.
This was decided in a meeting of Kashmiri Pandits here, today held under the aegis of Pt Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust. The meeting was chaired by senior KP leader and former HoD Economics Jammu University, Prof A N Sadhu while Prof P N Trisal a well known linguist and B L Saraf, retired District and Session Judge were the key speakers.
The prominent members of KP community including heads of various temple committees and trusts, KP organisations and social activists attended the meeting in which it was decided that the struggle will be intensified with holding a massive demonstration on April 11 at Jammu. The meeting said that it is unfortunate that the Government is ignoring this sensitive and important issue as temples and Hindu shrines in Kashmir are cultural and heritage monuments dating back to hundreds of years. They are the soul of Hindu community and their preservation and upkeep is must for coming generations as they represent a great civilization.
The speakers said that community had pinned high hopes in present dispensation both at Centre and in the UT but it is unfortunate that they failed to give justice to it. The passage of the Bill could be a first Confidence Building Measure (CBM) towards the rehabilitation of the community in Valley. By rejecting the Bill the intensions of Government have become known to one and all so the Pandits have totally lost faith in the Government which has always been non-serious towards the exiled people from Valley. The vote of thanks was proposed by Roshan Lal Pandita, chairman of the Trust. The stage was managed by H L Bhat its senior member while welcome address was made by Sundri Lal Koul.
Those who spoke included Swami Kumar Ji, Dr Ramesh Bhat, Chand Ji Pandita, M K Jalali, I K Raina, Sanjay Dhar, Ravi Jogi and, J L Pandita.
