JAMMU, Dec 16: Bronze medallist in 2016 Rio Olympics, Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik today said that discipline, dedication and commitment towards the game is the only mantras of the success for any sportsperson.
The female wrestler was here in the City of Temples to attend the wedding ceremony of her assistant coach, Sahil Sharma. Interacting with media at Amar Singh Club this evening, Sakshi said that everybody wants success but only those get this sweet fruit, who work with full dedication and remained determined despite tasting many failures. There is no shortcut to success, she added.
Wrestler Sakshi Malik, who made the country proud by winning bronze medal in 2016 Rio Olympics in 58 kg category, expressed shock when she came to know from media that her assistant coach, Sahil Sharma, who played an important role in training her for 2016 Rio Olympics, is working on adhoc basis in Sports Department of J&K.
“Sahil sir is associated with us since 2013. It is due to his hard work that I won bronze in Rio Olympics. It is really disappointing that such a dedicated coach is working on adhoc basic. It is my humble request to J&K Government to regularize his services so that he can work with more vigour and trained many other girls like me,” Sakshi said, hoping that J&K Government will not take much time to accept her request.
Sakshi said if female wrestlers of J&K get training from talented coach, Sahil Sharma, the days are not far when they will be able to make their identity at international level. On a question, Sakshi said now-a-days mindset of the people of India have changed a lot. “Now many parents are sending their daughters into wrestling. They come to us and enquire about kind of training they should give to their daughters for getting medals at national and international level. This change has come after India female wrestlers started getting medals at international level,” the bronze medalist of 2016 Rio Olympics said.
To a question that wrestlers are not getting much sponsorship In India as are getting other players like cricketers and footballers, Sakshi said, “It’s not true. Today, from children to Grade A wrestlers are getting sponsorship and this really gives them support and motivation to excel further in their game”.
Earlier, on reaching Jammu, office bearers of J&K Olympic Association gave a warm welcome to Sakshi Malik in a simple but impressive function. Before winning bronze in 2016 Rio Olympics, Sakshi had bagged silver medal in 2014 Commonwealth Games and bronze medal in Asian Wrestling Championship organized at Doha in 2015.
Tomorrow, Sakshi will be embarking on Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra in Trikuta Hills of Katra.
