Prime Minister appealed to the States to do away with interviews for recruitment of candidates to lower posts and make the selection on the basis of their merit. This was a measure much appreciated by the nation especially the weaker sections of the people in the country. But alas, our bureaucracy is tenaciously holding on to the stereotype and continues with the process of discarded practice of holding interviews. This is only to allow malpractice to continue and sabotage an effort of reformation in the system. Only six departments in the State have notified their vacancies to the Selection Service Board despite notices to them by the GAD to expedite notification of posts. Nearly 32,000 posts are reported to be vacant and awaiting to be filled. Slackness and irresponsible behavior of our bureaucracy and its stereotypes are the reason for delaying and deferring recruitment under one or the other pretext. This is not going to help and the departments cannot go on with their lackadaisical attitude towards notifying the vacancies to the proper authorities. Vested interest has to be suppressed and the GAD has to take punitive action in case the departments continue to go ahead with their recalcitrance.
