JAMMU, Nov 7: Director, Urban Local Bodies (ULB), Jammu Soujanya Sharma visited the new solid waste management site at Municipal Committee Katra.
After the imposition of Section 144 by the District Administration at the previous dumping site, Director Urban Local Bodies Jammu has directed the Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Katra to expedite the work at new solid waste management site Tantalab.
Director was apprised by the concerned staff that 100 kanals of land has been acquired for the dumping site. The directions were issued to the concerned engineering wing to immediately start the work on alternate road leading to the dumping site. The alternate road is short in length and does not pass through any locality.
Sharma has recently procured two bioneer Machines and each will convert 4 ton bio-waste in 48 hours into compost. This will ease out the garbage problems of the Katra town. Katra town is being visited approximately 1 crore pilgrims every year. With the setting of these two machines in Katra, Municipal Committee Katra will be the first municipality in the State to convert bio waste into compost mechanically.
Sharma is taking utmost care for the Solid Waste Management Projects of the province and in this regard clusters have been formed where the solid waste management of 2-3 MCs would be treated and converted into compost.
