Srinagar, Feb 14: The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) has set a bizarre eligibility criteria for various posts that have been recently notified by the J&K Service Selection Board (JKSSB) and are soon to be filled across J&K.
As per a notification issued by the JKSSB, the DIPR has requisitioned around 74 posts of different nature that need to be filled, however, the eligibility criteria for the posts of cameramen and the Film Production Assistant has been set as graduation in science with relevant experience.
For the Assistant Cameraman post, to be filled for Jammu Division, the prescribed qualification, as per the notification, has been set as “Science Graduate with experience of at least two years in still photography and must have produced slide stories,” excluding those who have got degrees in the relevant field.
Further, as per the Advertisement No. 1 of 2021 issued by the JKSSB, the prescribed qualification for the post of Film Production Assistant which is to be filled for Kashmir Division has been given as “Science Graduate with experience of at least one year in still photography.”
For the posts of cameramen to be filled in various Kashmir as well as Jammu districts, the DIPR has gone with the eligibility criteria for such posts which are unheard of.
Pertinent to mention here, the eligibility criteria set by the department has left-out those with degrees in the relevant field such as Mass Communication & Journalism, including those who have done courses in photography that are offered by the ITIs across J&K
In this regard, the aspirants who were intending to apply for these posts and come from the relevant fields have been left high and dry as they have been rendered ineligible for the posts that have been notified.
They also termed the department’s move of setting such eligibility criteria as “bizarre and ironical”.
“Either, they are not aware of the relevant fields, or they are up to, I don’t know, what,” an aspirant who has done his Bachelors Degree in Journalism from Baramulla told Excelsior.
Notably, as per the advertisement notification, the Jal Shakti Department has referred 465 posts, Horticulture 345 posts, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs 41 posts, Hospitality and Protocol department 2 posts and Information Department has referred 74 posts to the JKSSB.
The submission of the online forms is set to begin from February 24, while the last date of the form submission has been set as March 24.
Earlier, the Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, J&K had referred vacancies to the JKSSB. The prescribed qualification was set as Graduation and Diploma in Photography, however, it can be noted here, that the diploma in photography is nowhere offered in J&K, while only one-year Trade Certificate Course is being offered by the ITIs across J&K which is hardy considered.
The official spokesperson Rohit Kansal told Excelsior that he will look into the matter.
