JAMMU, Nov 28: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Traffic Range Jammu, Dr Mohammad Haseeb Mughal, today inspected the 4th Tawi Bridge near Bhagwati Nagar to review the traffic situation following frequent complaints of congestion in the Canal Road, Bakshi Nagar and BC Road-Indira Chowk areas.
During the inspection, he examined traffic regulation measures, road conditions and peak-hour rush, and interacted with officers, traffic personnel and commuters to understand on-ground issues.
Several bottlenecks were noted, including poor lane discipline, roadside parking and heavy load at the bridge approach.
Taking immediate action, the DIG directed deployment of additional personnel during peak hours, removal of unauthorized parking and strict enforcement of lane discipline.
He also stressed better coordination with District Police, JMC, transporters and traders for improving signage, clearing road edges and regulating heavy vehicles during busy hours.
Speaking to reporters at the 4th Bridge, he said the road construction agency has begun repairing the damaged stretch near the bridge and urged the public to avoid using the route for the next two days to facilitate faster work.
He added that road discipline and inter-agency coordination are key to effective winter traffic management in Jammu.
