Vinay Kumar, SSP Traffic Rural Jammu; Mohammad Faisal Qureshi, SSP Traffic City Jammu, and various DySPs, from both urban and rural sectors and other officers attended the meeting.
A statement said that the primary focus of the meeting was to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent congestion in Jammu City, especially during peak hours.
It said DIG Dr Mohammad Haseeb Mughal emphasized the importance of maintaining essential services, particularly medical emergencies, during busy times.
Officers were instructed to identify and designate parking areas to alleviate roadside congestion and to remove any abandoned or junk vehicles that could obstruct traffic.
A significant point of discussion was the management of school traffic. Officers were directed to collaborate with private school administrations to ensure that school buses are not parked on streets, a practice that has been contributing to traffic woes.
Additionally, the DIG urged officers to coordinate with road construction agencies to minimize disruptions caused by construction activities.
He stressed the need for enhanced public awareness campaigns using PA systems to educate the public on traffic violations and road safety.
Mughal also highlighted the importance of rapid response to accidents, particularly fatal ones, advising officers to investigate the causes and implement measures to rectify hazardous spots.
He called for a ban on pressure horns in transport vehicles, noting the inconvenience they cause in residential areas, especially at night.
The DIG concluded by reminding all traffic officers that winter traffic management requires collective effort and dedication to ensure safety and ease of movement in the region.
