JAMMU, July 9: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, today conducted an extensive security review of the ongoing Shri Amarnath Yatra 2025 across the districts of Jammu, Samba and Kathua.
The DIG visited key lodgement centres, langar sites, and en-route locations, emphasizing coordinated efforts among all agencies to ensure the safety of pilgrims.
During his visit, DIG Sharma inaugurated several langars at Mahajan Sabha Shalamar (Jammu), Nonath Ashram and Chichi Mata Ghagwal (Samba), Tyagi Baba Langar at Mela Morh and Moga Langar (Kathua).
He instructed officers to maintain special focus on pilgrim security, especially at Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp and other key accommodation points.
The officers were directed to implement “Operation Third Eye” in coordination with stakeholders for enhanced surveillance.
DIG Sharma also interacted with yatris and advised those travelling in private vehicles to follow police instructions and preferably move in official convoys for a safe journey.
Officers were instructed to remain highly alert, particularly along the National Highway and during night hours.
All nakas and joint checkpoints were reviewed, including sensitive locations such as Tarnah Nallah, Ujh Nallah, Shaap Nallah, and various border areas in Kathua and Samba.
Special attention was given to possible infiltration routes and border security.
The DIG also met with Village Defence Group (VDG) members and stressed the importance of their vigilance.
He directed officials to identify additional locations for setting up nakas and to increase patrolling in border and city areas.
Emphasizing constant preparedness, DIG Sharma called for regular security reviews, mock drills, and real-time coordination with intelligence agencies including the Army, paramilitary forces, and local security bodies.
He instructed officers to ensure thorough checking of vehicles, vendors, and report any suspicious activities without delay.
