JAMMU, Jan 12: Different organisations today organised various programmes to celebrate National Youth Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
The Boys Hostel, University of Jammu, celebrated National Youth Day to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The event began with floral tribute to the spiritual leader, followed by a discussion on his teachings and their relevance in contemporary society. The discussion was led by the hostel’s boarders, including Avinash Choudhary, Gagandeep Singh Sasan, Sunil Singh, Shivam Sharma and Syed Waqar.
The dignitaries Ajay Sharma, SP South Jammu; Dr. Varinder Sharma, Assistant Commissioner, Excise & Taxation, Una; and Pankaj Khajuria, shared their valuable insights. SP Ajay Sharma stressed the importance of following Vivekananda’s teachings to address modern issues like drug addiction and pollution.
The event was organized under the guidance of Prof. Lalitsen Sharma, Provost, Boys Hostel; Dr. Ripudaman Parihar, Warden; Dr. Vimal Kishore, Dr. PP Singh, and Dr. Nitan Sharma, Resident Wardens. The celebration concluded with the distribution of sweets and a vote of thanks by Dr. PP Singh.
Ramakrishna Mission Jammu celebrated National Youth Day with great enthusiasm at the Vivekananda Auditorium. The program included speeches, drama, and musical performances by students from various colleges, with 250 NCC and NSS students participating. Distinguished guests included Dr. K.S. Chandrasekar, Vice Chancellor of Cluster University of Jammu, Squadron Leader Anil Sehgal, and Seema Sehgal, who performed a song on Swami Vivekananda. Dr. Chandrasekar urged youth to serve the nation, while Anil Sehgal emphasized cultural pride. Swami Yajnadharananda delivered the benediction and vote of thanks. Participants received certificates, books, and lunch.
BJYM (BJP Yuva Morcha), J&K, led by president Arun Prabhat, celebrated Swami Vivekananda Birth Anniversary by paying floral tribute to the youth icon. The main events took place at BJP headquarters, Trikuta Nagar, and Gummat Chowk, Jammu, with participation from BJP leaders like Sat Sharma, Ashok Koul, Kavinder Gupta, Yudhvir Sethi, and hundreds of BJYM activists. Leaders highlighted Swami Vivekananda’s teachings on strength, courage, and selfless service, emphasizing their relevance in empowering the youth.
Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital in Jammu celebrated its 55th Foundation Day and Swami Vivekananda’s 162nd birth anniversary. The event featured a Hawan ceremony and a free eye camp for underprivileged patients, organized by renowned surgeons Dr. Suruchi Gupta and Dr. Pallvi Sharma. Hospital president Anil Gupta highlighted the institution’s commitment to affordable, high-quality healthcare.
Government Degree College, Marh, celebrated National Youth Day, organized by the Viksit Bharat Committee and NSS unit under Principal Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Kumar Koul. The Principal highlighted Swami Vivekananda’s role as a spiritual leader and youth icon, inspiring students to contribute to a better future.
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Jammu organized an event at Dogri Sanstha, Jammu, to celebrate National Youth Day, honouring the contributions of youth in nation-building. Chief guest Yudhvir Sethi (MLA, Jammu East), Pawan Sharma (ex-State Org. Secretary) and Rahul Rana (National Secretary, ABVP) shared their insights on youth empowerment. Yudhvir Sethi emphasized the importance of youth in building a self-reliant India, while Pawan Sharma focused on unity for a developed India. Rahul Rana highlighted ABVP’s vision of youth-driven change. State Secretary Sannak Shrivats presented the introduction, and Mahanagar Secretary Harish Sharma gave the vote of thanks.
On the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s Birth Anniversary, the Taushi Shakha of Bharat Vikas Parishad organized an online seminar titled “Swami Vivekananda’s Transformational Impact on Youth and the World.” Ajay Khajuria (Retd.) welcomed the participants and discussed Swami’s role in inspiring youth.
The seminar, moderated by Prof. Ajay Khajuria from MIET, Jammu, featured key speakers including Jagmohan Sharma, Chander Mohan Sharma, Dr. Vikas Padha, Kamni Kesar and Vinod, who shared their insights and personal tribute to Swami Vivekananda. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Jagmohan Sharma.
The VOW Club Gandharwan Akhnoor organized a debate competition at GMS Khungan, Akhnoor, on the theme, “Role of Teachings of Swami Vivekananda in National Progress and Development.” Advocate Naresh Kumar Raina emphasized Swami Vivekananda’s teachings on Dharma, peace, and the importance of Indian languages. VOW Club President Balwinder Singh Pawar highlighted the club’s contributions to youth awareness. Winners included Janvi Verma (1st), Arti Devi (2nd), and Simran Devi (3rd).
To commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s 162nd birth anniversary, Keshav Chopra, Chairman of Samvedna Society, organized a program at Muskan Home for Divyang (physically and mentally challenged) children in Channi Rama. The event focused on children with disabilities such as cerebral palsy, mental retardation, and hearing impairment.The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Pt. Tripat Upadhyay, Rahul Dutta, and Muskan Home officials.
