Different organisations celebrate 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervour

JAMMU, Aug 17: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by political, social, and educational institutions across the Jammu region, marked by flag hoisting ceremonies, tribute to freedom fighters and expressions of unity and national pride.
Rajya Sabha MP Er. Gulam Ali Khatana hoisted the National Flag at several locations in Bathindi, Jammu and Udhampur, paying homage to freedom fighters and observing a two-minute silence for the Kishtwar tragedy victims. He criticized NC and Congress for creating a “double mindset” and praised Kashmir’s transformation post-Article 370, aligning with PM Modi’s vision of a developed India.
Senior BJP leader Adv Devraj Sharma unfurled the tricolor at multiple venues in Panchayat Bansultan, RS Pura, also criticizing divisive politics and acknowledging the region’s shift toward peace and national progress.
Janta Dal Secular J&K President Mastnath Yogi celebrated the day at the party office in Bhaderwah, recalling sacrifices of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru and Bhagat Singh, urging citizens to safeguard freedom. Ram Rattan Sharma also hoisted the flag at Nagrota.
At the Udhampur Campus of University of Jammu, Prof. Yash Pal Sharma led celebrations featuring speeches by Shruti Awasthi and Col. Sudeshwar Sharma, cultural performances, a plantation drive and tributes to national heroes and Kishtwar victims.
Balgran, a Charitable Home for Children, marked the occasion with flag hoisting by Padma Shri Prof. Lalit Magotra, cultural performances, scholarships for meritorious students and solemn remembrance of those lost in the Kishtwar cloudburst.
The Greater Kailash Residents Welfare Society (GKRWS) celebrated the 79th Independence Day with unity and patriotism. Senior citizen N.D. Sharma hoisted the National Flag, followed by speeches emphasizing unity and patriotism. A two-minute silence honored victims of the Kishtwar cloudburst. GKRWS President Gandeep Pargal thanked participants, concluding the event with pride and community spirit.
Independence Day was celebrated at Government High School Bambliya, Lower Hathal. Tehsildar Manish Mangotra along with Headmaster Rattan Lal Choudhary hoisted the flag. Staff members, students and senior citizens of the area participated in the event, celebrating the spirit of freedom and patriotism with enthusiasm.
Janipur Market Association led by its president RC Bali hoisted the National Flag at Janipur Main Stop to celebrate the 79th Independence Day.
The event was attended by prominent members like former MLA Shiv Dev Singh, ML Puri, RL Sharma, Surinder Rakwal, Sunil Baseen, Arjun Pandita, Ashok Babber, Puran, Rakesh Jandyal, and local shopkeepers as well as other dignitaries.
On the occasion, the dignitaries commemorated the freedom fighters for their role in country’s freedom and hoped that the younger generation learns from their spirit of nationalism.
