SRINAGAR, Nov 27: Aiming to accelerate progress toward the national goal of eliminating tuberculosis, the Director Health Services, Kashmir (DHSK), today directed all districts to strengthen case finding, ensure timely notification, and improve treatment adherence.

The directives, officials said, were issued during an extensive review meeting held at the Directorate headquarters, Swasthya Bhawan, Bemina, convened to assess programme implementation, field supervision, and overall service delivery across the Kashmir Division.

Districts were also instructed to scale up activities under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP).

The meeting was attended by all Chief Medical Officers, the Deputy Director Health Services Kashmir, the Controller of Stores, and representatives from the State Health Society and the National Health Mission.

Earlier, the Director stressed the need for regular monthly review meetings at district and block levels to reinforce monitoring mechanisms.

ASHA Facilitators (AFs) and Block ASHA Coordinators (BACs) were directed to ensure strict field supervision, proper documentation, and timely reporting as mandated.

Highlighting the crucial role of ASHAs and Community Process teams in strengthening grassroots health services, the Director called for enhanced guidance and support to improve their performance.

A detailed review of their functioning was conducted, following which districts were asked to identify performance gaps and issue time-bound corrective measures.

All districts were further instructed to prepare and submit a comprehensive action plan within seven days to revitalise the functioning of AFs, BACs, Community Process staff, and Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Committees (VHSNCs).

The Director also directed CMOs to conduct surprise inspections at block and sub-centre levels to assess on-ground performance and initiate disciplinary action in cases of persistent negligence.

Progress under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) and the establishment of co-located AYUSH facilities in Community Health Centres was also reviewed, with officials asked to expedite the submission of Action Taken Reports.

Reiterating strict compliance and accountability, the Director said these issues will again be reviewed.

The meeting, as per officials, concluded with firm directions to ensure improved field supervision, accurate reporting, and timely submission of district-level progress reports.
