DG ICCR, INTACH Chairman, Brig Roy call on Vohra

SRINAGAR, June 9: Satish C. Mehta, Director General, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), along with A.R. Nazki, Regional Director, ICCR, called on N.N Vohra, Governor, here at Raj Bhavan today.
Mr. Mehta briefed the Governor about ICCR’s objectives and current activities which are aimed at fostering and strengthening cultural relations and mutual understanding between India and other countries. They also discussed ICCR’s planned future programmes for projecting the art, culture, and traditions of the State and the efforts presently underway to give a fillip to the various local cultural and educational organizations in showcasing their talent to the outside world.
Meanwhile, Maj Gen L.K. Gupta, Chairman, Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) called on Mr. Vohra and briefed him about the various projects which have been undertaken by INTACH for the preservation and conservation of J&K’s cultural heritage.
He also apprised the Governor about INTACH’s plans to carry out conservation work of wall murals, paper and cloth manuscripts, historic textiles, painted objects, stone and terracotta items and other artifacts of archeological significance in the Valley and other parts of the State.
The Governor complimented Gen. Gupta for the excellent work done by INTACH’s J&K Chapter and assured him of full support to all future initiatives of the Organisation.
Brigadier P.C. Roy, Group Captain, National Cadet Corps (NCC), Srinagar also called on Mr. Vohra.
Brig. Roy briefed the Governor about the functioning of the NCC in the State and the initiatives being taken for enhancing the enrolment of boys and girls under NCC in all the regions of the State.
The Governor stressed the need for expanding NCC activities in the State, particularly in the remote and difficult areas, as it promotes discipline and courage among youth and helps in capacity building for dealing with unforeseen situations.
