JAMMU, June 23: The workers of Dogra Front and Shiv Sena (DFSS) led by their president, Ashok Gupta, today held a protest in old Jammu City against non-implementation of GST in the State.
“GST the biggest tax reform in the history of this country has been passed by all the States and all are eagerly waiting for July 1, the date of its implementation, but on the contrary the J&K Government has not been able to convince the State actors”, Gupta said while addressing the protesting workers.
He said that Goods & Service Tax or GST is one of the biggest fiscal reforms in India since Independence. He stated that anybody who opposes GST in the State is effectively saying consumers in the State to buy expensive products. “If the GST isn’t introduced in the State, consumers will have to pay double tax. First, they have to pay tax on inputs and then on final products as in the absence of the GST, they won’t get the input credit”, Gupta added.
Gupta stated that the GST has been launched in the country by the Prime Minister with a tag line of “One Nation One Tax” which just simplifies the tax structure of the country and reduces the burden upon the consumers, but the State unit of BJP has been not able to move any rock in favour of GST as neither there has been any date declared neither has any road map been declared for its implementation.
He further stated that if the State Assembly is not passing the GST, then the Government should bring in an ordinance to implement GST in the State so that the traders and the end consumers do not have to suffer.
