JAMMU, July 11: Activists of Dogra Front & Shiv Sena (DF&SS), led by their president, Ashok Gupta organized a protest rally here today against the non-availability of water and electricity in the city.
The protesters brandished empty buckets and electric fans and raised slogans against Jal Shakti Department and PDD for having failed to provide basic facilities to the people of Jammu.
“As the mercury has touched 45 degree Celsius mark in Jammu, power and water supply seems to have vanished away,” a protester said adding that lack of potable water and electricity has pushed the people of Jammu region back to Stone Age.
Addressing the protesters Ashok Gupta claimed: “People are forced to sleep without fans and coolers as there is no electricity since the last 36 hours.”
He lambasted at the PDD for accusing general masses for power crisis in the name of power theft and said that DF&SS would protests till provision of basic amenities to the poor and deprived classes is ensured by the authorities concerned.
“Shortage of power supply has led to scarcity of water in the city,” Gupta said appealing to the Lieutenant Governor to take cognizance of the matter and issue necessary instructions to PDD authorities for immediate action to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
Deepu, Kishore, Subhash, Ajay, Prem, Bantu, Vicky, Kalu, Naresh, Vinay, Shokit, Atulya and others were also present in the protest.
