JAMMU, June 6: The workers of Dogra Front and Shiv Sena (AG) under the leadership of Ashok Gupta took out a protest in Jammu city by carrying electric and hand fans in their hands as while the mercury has touched 45 degree Celsius, electricity and water supply seems to have vanished.
While addressing Ashok Gupta said in Gandhi Nagar division there are 4200 transformers and to man these there are only 90 linemen which shows that one lineman is responsible for 90 transformers and in City division there are 3600 transformers but 60 linemen which shows that since independence the infrastructure has not been improved. He added that the PDD is still working as per the early post independence power infrastructure when the need of manpower was less and transformers not over-burdened with load of air-conditioners and heavy appliances.
He said the Government has failed to keep its promise and the situation has gone from bad to worse. He added that despite paying charges for the electricity and water, the people are deprived of the same and reeling under acute scarcity of water and erratic power supply.
Ashok Gupta demanded that a committee should be formed for Jammu area for water and electricity as when the Secretariat shifts to Srinagar, the needs of Jammu are neglected.
He demanded that all pumping station should have 24 hours power supply so that pumping of water is not halted and the people of the city don’t have to suffer on account of water shortage.
Prominent among those present in the protest included Birbal, Sonu, Roop Lal, Parkash, Nikku, Manohar, Geeta, Sushil, Bantu, Abhishek and others.
