DFS holds awareness camp, conducts inspection of JU canteens

JAMMU, Dec 21: Department of Food Safety (DFS) Jammu held awareness camp regarding food safety and various hygiene steps to be taken at Trikuta Complex, Bus Stand Jammu and also conducted surprise inspections of University of Jammu canteens.
The awareness camp was organized for butchers and people working in the restaurants where vegetarian and non-vegetarian food is being cooked and served to the people.
Assistant Commissioner for Food Safety, Jammu Dr Parvesh Kumar along with his team members namely Ajay Khajuria, Daleep Singh, Jai Inder and Hans Raj, Food Inspectors conducted the camp at Trikuta Complex, Bus Stand, Jammu.
The team members discussed various steps and all activities that could affect food safety. They also apprised them about the steps to be taken to ensure food safety including cooking, cooling and subsequent storage times and temperatures, controlling cross-contamination from processes such as slicing and vacuum packing, pests, waste, cleaning and disinfection arrangements, personal hygiene requirements and water quality.
Meanwhile, the team also conducted surprise inspection of canteens in University of Jammu. Dr Parvesh Kumar asked the canteens owners and workers to improve their working culture in two weeks otherwise strict action will be taken against them.
He also held interaction with the Dean Students Welfare of University of Jammu Prof Satnam Kour. Prof Kour urged the Drugs and Food Safety team to organize awareness camp for students and officials in the Varsity also.
