DFCO seizes huge consignment of intoxicants, one held

JAMMU, June 27: The Drugs and Food Control Organisation (DFCO) today seized a large consignment of intoxicant medicines from a suspected peddler in Jammu.
Acting on specific information, a team of Drugs Control Officers conducted a swift operation near Suki Canal, Bantalab area and intercepted one Arjun Sharma of Rajouri at present Digiana, who was found in possession of 4,500 tablets of Tapentadol and 400 capsules of Pregabalin-300, both categorized as habit-forming drugs, a DFCO official said.
The accused had no valid documentation or license to carry the drugs, he said.
Quoting the preliminary inquiry, the DFCO official revealed that the individual was involved in inter-state smuggling of restricted drugs by impersonating a chemist and using forged licenses.
“It was also found that the accused had been selling these drugs illegally to addicts,” he said.
According to him, the entire consignment has been confiscated and sent for further analysis, and the accused has been taken into custody.
The operation was initiated by Archana Mujoo, ADC (HQ) Jammu and carried out by Drugs Control Officers Tej Veer Singh Sodi, Nisar Ahmed Dar, and Amit Mahajan, under the supervision of Arvind Sharma, Assistant Drugs Controller, Jammu.
