Australian experts highlight safety

JAMMU, June 8: Food Safety Wing of Drug and Food Control Organisation Jammu, today organized a virtual event with the objective to create mass awareness through consumers as well as Food Business Operators with the current year theme “Safe Food Today For a Healthy Tomorrow”. Food Safety is a shared responsibility and therefore a collective effort is required for maintaining high standards of sanitation, hygiene, and safe practice in the entire food supply chain.
The event was presented by Dr. Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, Jammu. Sanjeev Gupta, Dy Comm. Food Safety Jammu was the chief guest on this occasion and he inaugurated the opening session with a brief note on how food safety is of utmost importance in the entire food chain. Meanwhile, Food Technologist, Industry Experts, Technology Experts besides people from consumer forums and food trade bodies participated in this virtual Google meet session organized between 12 PM to 2:30 PM.
Dr. Bharat Sharma from Kaplan Business School along with Food Handler Annalie Grima joined from Australia and spoke about the importance of food safety in FBOs. He also highlighted the different means and ways in handling the food wastage in India and another part of the world.
Sangeet Seth, a hospitality expert, and consultant from New York presently in India talked about the various aspects of the food contamination and suggested how it can be handled more effectively by FBOs with International process adaptation and technique in a simple way.
Associate Prof. Ashwani Khajuria from Govt Degree Women College Kathua presented a detailed presentation on food adulteration and misleading packaging information in the food articles. He also showed the ways in which consumers can identify and stay aware while buying such food articles from the open market.
Satish Kumar, an IT and Social Media Expert from Mavis Technologies, New Delhi presented a short presentation on how the use of technology and social media can help the food authorities, FBOs, and consumers to reduce the risk of foodborne diseases and he further demonstrated the ways and means to utilize the power of social media for food safety.
The vote of thanks provided by Dr. Parvesh Kumar with the conclusion note that Food Safety Team will organize such events on regular bases in near future with the help of technology partner Mavis Technologies to interact and make consumers vigilant about the food safety.
