KATHMANDU, July 26 : Devotees thronged the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu to offer special prayers that picked up on Shrawan Sombar or the first Monday of the holy month of Shrawan, media reports said on Friday.
During the festival, Hindu women visit temples and offer prayers to Lord Shiva, wishing for the good fortune, prosperity, and longevity of their loved ones, The Kathmandu Post reported.
Monday or Sombar, is considered an auspicious day for worshipping the deity, with prayers being offered through the holy month of Shrawan, starting Monday.
Unmarried women fast on this day to find ideal husbands, wear green bangles, and apply henna (mehendi) to their hands, the report said.
According to Hindu belief, this month is also known as the month of festivals and is considered auspicious as it marks the beginning of Hindu festivals, including Teej, Dashain and Tihar, it added.(UNI)
