NEW DELHI, April 12: The vision of “Viksit Bharat by 2047” is guided by the principle “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi” (progress along with tradition), which emphasises that modern development and preservation of traditions are not contradictory but complementary, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan said on Sunday.
He said that when modern science works in harmony with language, faith and culture, it becomes a powerful force for protection and empowerment.
Speaking at a conference titled “Transformation of Tribal Lives through Science and Technological Interventions — Preserving Language, Faith and Culture”, the vice president underlined that tribal communities possess invaluable traditional knowledge that supports biodiversity and sustainable use of forest resources.
“For centuries, these communities have preserved India’s ancient culture, faith and civilisational heritage. Tribal areas offer immense potential for green economic development,” he said.
He noted that tribal communities have exceptional skills in design, textiles and colour combinations, which have been preserved over generations.
Highlighting key government initiatives, the vice president said that under Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan, more than 2,400 roads spanning nearly 7,300 kilometres and over 160 bridges have been sanctioned.
The scheme aims to empower particularly vulnerable tribal groups by ensuring comprehensive service delivery and infrastructure development in their villages.
The conference was organised by the Department of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach, and ITITI-Doon Sanskriti School, Dehradun. (PTI)
