SHIMLA, June 25: Renowned theatre personality, Padma Shree Balwant Thakur said that Vishal Pahari, Director of Rangmanch Theatre Group, Rajouri and Kaidar Nath, Director Sankalp Rangmandal, Shimla did a great job by organizing the National Theatre Festival at the historic heritage Gaiety Theatre Shimla which is a dream performing space for any artist to perform.
He was speaking at a function at the 138 year old historic heritage Gaiety Theatre Shimla where he was felicitated at the culmination of Dev Bhoomi National Theatre Festival.
Thakur said that the local theatre practitioners should capitalize the legacy and popularity of 138 year old Gaiety Theatre which also featured in the popular song ‘Main Nikla Gaddi Le Ke’ of movie Gadar-Ek Prem Katha.
“Had such a place be in Jammu, I would have transformed the same into a world destination of theatre,” he maintained.
The felicitations were done jointly by the representatives of Rangmanch Theatre Group and Sankalp Rangmandal in the presence of the living legend of Himachal’s theatre, art and culture Shriniwas Joshi.
A handout stated that great Indian actors like K.L Sehgal, Prithivi Raj Kapoor, Balraj Sahini, Shashi Kapoor and others have repeatedly performed on the stage from where Thakur addressed the gathering.
