JAMMU, Aug 2: It may sound strange but is a fact that Bharat Nagar Enclave Bantalab which is in the heart of Ward 63 Keran Bantalab has neither been owned by Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) nor Rural Development Department (RDD) with the result the residents of area are running from pillar to post for basic necessities of life for a pretty long time.
According to Bharat Nagar Enclave Residents Welfare Committee, the area has been totally neglected and it sans the basic development like proper roads, lanes and drains as both JMC as well as RDD disown the area. This attitude of the concerned departments has created a perplexed situation for the people of the area which is in the heart of Bantalab town that is part of Ward 63.
The residents while expressing grave concern over lack of basic amenities in the area in a statement issued here, today said that it is a matter of grave concern the area does not fall under the Municipal limits while areas surrounding the enclave are part of JMC Ward.
They said the Welfare Committee had filed a complaint in Department of Public Grievances through its president M K Pandita for the failure of the PWD in construction of lanes and by-lanes in the area. In response to it the PWD submitted that the repair and renovation work of lanes and by lanes below 18 feet width will either be taken by Municipality of Rural Development Department (RDD).
They said since the Bharat Nagar Enclave does not fall in the JMC the grievance was forwarded to Rural Development Department (RDD) under the Panchayat Keran under BDO Kot Bhalwal. However the BDO stated that the area does not fall in the jurisdiction of Kot Bhalwal Block which is highly disgusting and condemnable.
The residents said the response given by Rural Development Department is completely unjustified and unsatisfactory as the area is within the jurisdiction of Kot Bhalwal.
They said that there is lot of resentment among the people over the dilapidated condition of lanes and by lanes in the area which have not been constructed for decades. In an appeal the residents have sought the immediate intervention of Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha towards the plight of the people of the area and demanded blacktopping of lanes and by lanes as well as redressal of other issues immediately.
