Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council Dr. Neelam Gorhe visits families of victims of the Navale Bridge accident.

PUNE, Nov 16: Dr. Neelam Gorhe, Deputy Chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council and Shiv Sena leader, on Sunday consoled the families of eight persons killed in Thursday’s mass collision accident near Navale Bridge in Pune.

A truck driver lost control and rammed into a vehicle setting off a chain of collisions in this stretch of road on the Mumbai-Bengaluru hghway, notorious for accidents. Fourteen others were injured and are admitted to various hospitals in Pune.

After interacting with the Navalkar and Dhabade families, Dr. Gorhe said it was shocking that some people pretending to help had stolen the Aadhaar cards, mobile phones, jewellery and important documents of the deceased. She would inform the Police Commissioner and request an urgent investigation.

Dr. Gorhe said ahe had already submitted a memorandum to union Minister for Road Transport and Highways  Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Chief Minister  Devendra Fadnavis, Both Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde  and Ajit Pawar, urging immediate coordinated action between the Central, State and local administrations.

In the memorandum, she has highlighted the need for urgent modifications to the dangerous slope near Navale Bridge, alternative traffic arrangements, special awareness for drivers who descend in neutral from the Katraj tunnel, technical speed-control measures on slopes, and inspection of heavy vehicles. She said that a meeting will soon be held in Mumbai to suggest a permanent solution to the problem of recurring accidents at this location.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has assured that government assistance will be provided soon. “Meanwhile, on behalf of the Legislative Council and Shiv Sena, we have personally provided immediate financial support,” Dr. Gorhe stated.

Pune Yuva Sena city chief Nilesh Girme, Yuva Sena district chief Nilesh Ghare, Yuva Sena leader Somanath Kute, and activists Lokesh Rathod, Hrutik Galande, and Chetan Kodre were present during her visit. (UNI)
