Deptt of Pediatrics in SMGS Hospital organizes program on ‘Stop Diarrhea’

JAMMU, July 4: Department of Pediatrics, Government Medical College, Jammu, held an awareness program in SMGS Hospital, Jammu in connection with the ongoing “Stop Diarrhea Campaign”.
The faculty members of Department of Pediatrics: Dr Sanjeev Kumar Digra, Professor & Head of the Department; Dr Sunil Dutt Sharma, Professor; Dr Ravi Kumar Parihar, Dr Anumodan Gupta; Dr Sanjana Sharma; Dr Mousin Mustafa Batt; Dr Raman Sharma; Dr Surjeet Kumar; Dr Rajinder Singh and Dr Pallavi Sharma interacted with the patients as well as the attendants and made them aware about the ways to prevent diarrhea and dehydration.
This was followed by Poster display activity, wherein, the nursing students participated by making and displaying posters depicting measures to prevent diarrhea and role of ORS in diarrhea.
A seminar on the topic was also organized and Dr Dara Singh, Medical Superintendent, SMGS Hospital, Jammu was the guest of honour on this occasion.
Dr Sanjeev Kumar Digra, Professor & Head of the Department of Pediatrics discussed importance of this campaign and apprised the gathering that childhood diarrhea is a significant public health problem in India and contributes to 5.8 percent of deaths among children under 05 years old. He said that almost all deaths due to childhood diarrhea can be prevented by an early identification, management and prevention of dehydration and adequate nutritional intake by the child during diarrhea. He also stressed upon the measures to prevent childhood diarrhea which include exclusive breast feeding till the age of 06 months, nutrition and hygiene, immunization, provision of safe drinking water etc.
During the seminar, Junior Resident Doctors of Department of Pediatrics: Dr Akshay Padha, Dr Sukriti Waza, Dr Mohit Kumar, Dr Ankur Jain delivered talks about role and importance of Zinc and ORS in Diarrhea.
Neerja Sharma, Matron SMGS Hospital, Jammu along with other nursing and paramedical staff also attended this awareness program.
