SRINAGAR, Feb 20: Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department today launched a demolition drive along river Jhelum banks in Baramulla district of north Kashmir.
A top official of the Department told Excelsior that drive was started from Dewan Bagh area of Baramulla Town and several structures were razed. “There is massive encroachment along river width in Baramulla and we had warned these encroachers more than four times by serving notices. However they didn’t pay any heed to these warnings and today we along with a large posse of police started the demolition drive,” he said.
The official said they were supposed to raze eight houses but the families living in them sought some time for shifting their goods. “In first, we dismantled the walls and other structures. We will also dismantle the houses constructed illegally after they shift goods,” he said, adding that the drive would continue and no one would be spared.
