Demand for strong infrastructure along India-China border

NEW DELHI, Dec 8: A demand for a strong infrastructure along the India-China border was made in the Lok Sabha today by a BJP member, who contended that roads and other facilities on the Indian side were far less.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Ram Swaroop Sharma, who represents Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh close to the Chinese border, said people in the area felt less secure due to the modern infrastructure on the other side.

He urged the government to provide satellite connectivity in the region to facilitate all modes of communication.

BJP member Ramdas Tadas demanded stringent action against those found guilty of killing a 9-year old boy as part of a human sacrifice ritual in Wardha area in Maharashtra last month, saying the locals were terrorised after the incident and even refused to send their children to schools.

He said such backward and superstitious practices should be put an end to and sought a CID probe into the incident.

Bijoya Chakraborty (BJP) expressed concern over growing incidents of land encroachment and land grabbing, especially in Assam.

She said with land being converted to other uses, there will be problems of decreasing farm production.

Rahul Shevale (Shiv Sena) made a strong plea for turning the Pinjal project under which water of Daman Ganga from Gujarat will be brought for water requirements of Mumbai.

Vikram Usendi (BJP) made a fervent plea for urgent steps to set up post offices and construct postal buildings in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, saying this was adversely affecting the welfare of the poor tribals of the vast area.

As a result, the local populace was not getting payments for MGNREGA and distribution of Aadhar cards and other facilities were not taking place and there was no bank in the area too, he said.

Satyapal Singh (BJP) underlined the need for four more benches of Allahabad High Court at Meerut, Agra, Varanasi and Gorakhpur, saying this was urgently needed to provide early and affordable justice to 20 crore people of the state.

Dharamveer Gandhi (AAP) wanted immediate release of a large number of prisoners who have been in jail despite their punishment over years back.

Raising the problems of jute workers and growers, CPI(M) member Badaruddoza Khan said 58 jute mills in West Bengal had either closed down or had drastically cut their production, rendering thousands of workers jobless and turning jute-growing farmers into paupers.

He asked the government not to phase out the Jute Packaging Material Act and demanded anti-dumping measures against just bags being imported from Bangladesh.

Rama Devi (BJP) wanted healthcare facilities in Seohar area of Bihar and said telemedicine facilities and e-Swasthya programmes should be used to ensure that urgent medical help reach the poor in the remote areas of the country.

Her party colleague Poonam Mahajan sought expeditious steps to hand over houses built for people living in slums close to the Mumbai airport, saying the airport’s expansion would be halted for a longer period if the slum-dwellers were not shifted to the new settlements soon.

While Sailesh Kumar Bhulo Mandal (BJP) asked the government to take note of the “serious” problem of erosion of Kosi river, Raghav Lakhanpal (BJP) wanted the ‘julaha’ community to be included in the scheduled caste list in Uttar Pradesh. (PTI)
