Delhi Govt to provide Rs 300 Cr annual support to MCD, announces Rs 500 Cr One-Time Grant

NEW DELHI, Jan 30: Delhi government will extend an annual financial assistance of Rs 300 crore to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to permanently strengthen the city’s sanitation system, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Friday.
In a major boost to cleanliness and pollution control efforts, Rekha Gupta also announced a one-time grant of Rs 500 crore to the civic body to improve sanitation services and curb dust-related pollution across the capital.
The funds will be utilised for cleanliness drives, minor road repairs and measures aimed at reducing dust emissions.
Chairing a high-level review meeting with MCD officials at the Delhi Secretariat, Gupta said the additional allocation would help clear pending dues of waste management companies, enabling them to operate more efficiently.
“Part of the amount will also be used to offset monthly losses incurred in garbage collection and transportation, ensure uninterrupted sanitation services, and facilitate waste removal from areas currently not covered by contractors,” she added.
The grant will further support small-scale road works such as pothole filling and patch repairs, along with initiatives to control dust pollution, Gupta said.
Gupta also directed the MCD to ensure that the entire amount is utilised strictly for approved purposes and not diverted to any other schemes.
She instructed officials to adhere to all financial norms, maintain regular monitoring of expenditures, and submit periodic progress reports and utilisation certificates.
Rekha Gupta said dust generated from unmanaged waste significantly contributes to air pollution.
“Our government has decided to make sanitation systems more effective to keep the capital clean and healthy,” she said.
Gupta added that the Delhi government is separately providing adequate funds for the procurement of modern cleaning equipment to enhance efficiency and speed of sanitation work.
She also directed officials to set up new waste-to-energy plants and upgrade existing facilities. Stressing proper utilisation of green waste, she instructed MCD leaders to install modern machines in every constituency.
Highlighting the importance of improved waste management, the Chief Minister said simplifying wet and dry waste collection processes would encourage greater public participation, contributing significantly to making Delhi cleaner and more sustainable.
