LEH, Dec 25: On the completion of three months of the Leh violence in which four people lost their lives, Leh Apex Body (LAB) Co-chairman and Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) President, Chering Dorjay Lakrook, said that the Government of India’s delay in holding talks with Ladakhi leaders appears to be a tactic aimed at proposing something under pressure that will not be acceptable to the people of Ladakh.
He added that the Government of India had earlier assured that talks would be held within days after the draft proposal got submitted by the Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA).
He said that LAB had expected the Government of India to invite them for talks after the Parliament session and Ladakhi Losar celebrations. “Both are now over, yet we have still not received any invitation from the Government of India, despite the fact that the draft proposal was submitted about a month ago and the Government had promised to hold talks within days of receiving it,” he added.
The Leh Apex Body leader further alleged that a handful of people seem to have been given a free hand by the authorities to post anything on social media including communal comments targeting the Ladakh Buddhist Association. Dorjay made it clear that that the LBA is the strength of the Leh Apex Body.
He also recalled that the LBA, in its General Council meeting, had passed a resolution with an overwhelming majority of about 90 percent in support of Sixth Schedule status for Ladakh. He said there are only a few people , well known to everyone, who are consistently attacking the LBA.
Speaking about Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently lodged in Jodhpur Central Jail, Dorjay said that Apex Body had received messages from him in which he urged the APEX leadership not to step back from its core demands. Dorjay said he is planning to meet Sonam Wangchuk in the coming days in Jodhpur Jail. He further appealed to the people of Ladakh to remain united and not be swayed by a few rumour-mongers, adding that only unity and patience will help in realising their demands.
