JAMMU, July 4: District Congress Committee Jammu-Urban held under the leadership of Manmohan Singh discussed strategy for the challenges ahead and strengthening the party in the region.
The meeting was presided over by Raman Bhalla, working president JKPCC and attended by former Ministers Mula Ram and Yogesh Sawhney, Ved Mahajan (Ex-MLC & I/C HQ), Rajnish Sharma (Treasurer), Arvinder Singh Micky (Ex-MLC), District office bearers, block presidents, ward presidents and other prominent workers of the party.
Addressing the meeting, Bhalla strongly demanded immediate restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. “Downgrading of our historic state to a Union Territory has deeply undermined the democratic rights and identity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. This move has not only stripped our region of its constitutional protections but also eroded the trust of its citizens in the democratic process”, Bhalla said.
He said that J&K people deserve the same rights and privileges as citizens of other states in India. “The delay in restoring statehood is a grave injustice, fostering a sense of alienation and disempowerment among our people”, he said, adding, “A full-fledged state is essential to address the unique socio-economic, cultural, and political aspirations of our diverse region,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Mula Ram said that despite Assembly election and coming into power of elected Government, the people are facing hardships for day to day issues, due to dual control system and lack of powers. He said that Central Government promised time to time to restore statehood without delay especially after Assembly elections but even after eight months of elections & elected Government taking over, the Centre has no intention to fulfill the promise.
Senior leaders Yogesh Sawhney, Ved Mahajan and Manmohan Singh also spoke on the occasion. They stressed upon the need to counter the false propaganda of BJP claiming to be champions of Jammu for last seven decades but miserably failed when they got huge mandate on falsehood and unachievable slogans.
Senior functionaries-Satish Sharma, Sanjeev Panda, Rajvir Singh, Vijay Shastri, Seva Dal chief Vijay Sharma, OBC Chairman Madan Lal Chalotra, Ricky Dalotra, Rajinder Singh Jamwal, Vijay Malhotra, Kewal Krishan Jogi, Vijay Chib and others were also present.
